Full assessment

Corteva has instituted formal oversight of its lobbying activities through its Governance and Compliance Committee, which "shall oversee and advise the Company's legislative and other public policy activities and initiatives, advocacy priorities, and public reputation management" and "review and make recommendations on the development of the Company's public policy agenda and strategy regarding political engagement, lobbying efforts, and political and philanthropic contributions." The company also discloses its U.S. lobbying expenditures - including "$2,549,000" in direct lobbying and "$1,015,000" to trade associations - and affirms a public commitment to align its engagement activities with the goals of the Paris Agreement ("Does your organization have a public commitment or position statement to conduct your engagement activities in line with the goals of the Paris Agreement? [...] Yes"). However, we found no evidence of any policy or process for reviewing or monitoring the alignment of its lobbying with climate objectives, no detailed mechanism for managing direct or indirect lobbying against its climate policy, and no named individual or additional body responsible for ensuring that such political advocacy supports its climate commitments.

This assessment is part of the Lobbying Governance Index, covering 8,500 companies scored on whether they have processes to oversee their climate lobbying. See all companies in North America or all companies in United States.
