Describe the process(es) your organization has in place to ensure that your engagement activities are consistent with your overall climate change strategy[…]In June 2022, Mazda announced our commitment to making Mazda factories globally go carbon neutral by 2035, keeping an eye on our goal of making our whole supply chain carbon neutral by 2050.
The approach of the carbon neutral (the following, CN) is the common theme of industry and the community, we recognize that there are many issues over so many divergences should be solved.
For example, we assume that several approaches are necessary and should be solved, such as technology development for CN, establishment of proper supply chain, promotion of investment, creating ecosystem structure which investment and provided value can circulate in community area.
In order to solve such things, we think that the effective ways are to cooperate with many stakeholders of many aspects each other, to share issues and solutions, and to promote CN among industry and the community.
Under such issues recognition, in November 2021, Mazda participated in as chair company and began activities as part of the Carbon Neutral Electricity Promotion Subcommittee*(Chairman: Representative Director and Chairman of the Board of Mazda, Secretariat: Mazda), which was set up as one of the special subcommittees under the Chugoku Region Carbon Neutrality Promotion Council, established by the Chugoku Economic Federation.
* 66 companies and local governments participate in subcommittee, as of June 2022.
Through this subcommittee, we hope to work together with the companies and local governments participating in the subcommittee to realize policies to promote the expansion of the supply and demand of electricity derived from renewable energy in order to convert electricity into CN, which can be started at an early stage and is expected to be effective.
