Describe the process(es) your organization has in place to ensure that your engagement activities are consistent with your overall climate change strategy[…]Japan Post Insurance signed the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (PRI) in October 2017. JPI promote ESG investment in accordance with the PRI and report on the status of our efforts once a year. In the 2020 PRI Annual Evaluation for 2019 activities, JPI received the highest rating of "A+" for "Active Ownership in Listed Equity" and "A" for "Strategy and Governance," "Investment Process for Listed Equity," and so on.
In order to clarify our basic approach to ESG investment, we have established an ESG investment policy and manage our assets in accordance with this policy.
The ESG investment policy stipulates the integration of ESG factors into the investment process and the constructive dialogue and exercise of shareholder voting rights in consideration of ESG factors.
Based on the enhancement of ESG investment system, etc., in October 2021, JPI revised our ESG investment policy, adding keywords such as "warmth," which is typical of Japan Post Insurance, key themes for ESG investment, and items related to the environment in line with TCFD recommendations.
In revising the ESG Investment Policy, the Responsible Investment Advisory Subcommittee deliberates and reports to the Sustainability Committee and the Management Meeting.
JPI are committed to promoting responsible investment, including ESG investment and stewardship activities.
With the establishment of the Sustainability Committee as an advisory committee to the Management Meeting in April 2021 to strengthen our sustainability promotion system, the former "Responsible Investment Advisory Committee" was renamed the "Responsible Investment Advisory Subcommittee" to become a specialized subcommittee.
The Responsible Investment Advisory Subcommittee deliberates objectively and professionally on matters related to conflicts of interest that may affect the exercise of shareholder voting rights and other matters that contribute to investment based on social responsibility as an institutional investor, and in principle meets twice a year.
In addition, at the Investment Management Strategy Meeting, attended by the executive officers in charge as well as the working members of each department of the Asset Management Division, ESG integration and engagement (dialogue with a purpose) for each asset are discussed and reported on monthly.
These efforts ensure that our climate change strategy is aligned with our engagement activities with investors, government agencies, and others.
