Puma SE
- Board oversight
- Named executive owner
- Direct lobbying governance
PUMA SE has put in place a clear governance process to align its policy engagement with its overall climate change strategy, with "the review procedure primarily involving PUMA's Senior Head of Corporate Sustainability that works in close cooperation with PUMA's Chief Sourcing Officer, Corporate Communications and Investor Relations departments to make sure that the activities which may influence policy are consistent with PUMA's overall strategy", and requiring that, for example, "the signature of the Fashion Charter for Climate Action letter to the government of Cambodia on renewable energy was run via all relevant internal departments and signed off by the CSO". This governance extends to indirect lobbying through trade associations, as PUMA's Senior Head of Corporate Sustainability serves as "one main contact person for SAC, ZDHC, WFSGI, Policy Hub, FESI as well as Stiftung KlimaWirtschaft" and ensures "PUMA messaging on sustainability related aspects is channeled through the Sustainability Department, to ensure that no conflicting messages are given". Oversight is anchored at the top, with "the CEO" and the Chief Sourcing Officer, a member of the Management Board, overseeing all sustainability-related topics at board level and a supervisory board sustainability committee governing climate and biodiversity issues, while PUMA's leaders have sustainability targets linked to performance bonuses. We found no evidence of a dedicated public audit or third-party review explicitly evaluating the alignment of its climate lobbying activities, and the details on the frequency and formal criteria of its policy engagement review are not disclosed.
